But My Hearing is Superior
I went to the Audiologist yesterday, because I've felt lately that my hearing is going. Nope. Perfect in the right ear and only slightly diminished for very low tones in the left. No more using, "I'm sorry, I just don't hear very well," as an excuse. It's more like, "I don't pay very close attention because I have a million things on my mind and I'm very tired".

I think you can still use the excuse that you don't hear very well - it is probably more polite than the other.
I'm going to get my hearing checked too - we'll see if I have the same results that you did!
