We've decided to scrub our plans to travel to Poland and Russia with Steph and Eva. For a variety of reasons, it just wasn't coming together for us this year.
So, we've been mulling over different ideas. We were all hyped up about the Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu for about a day or so, but now we're exploring the idea of driving around Norway. We also considered Washington, DC/LDS historical sites/NYC/Norway, but DC and NYC in the summer are hot, sticky, and even-more filled to the brim with crowds and lines. Doable, certainly, but driving through the gorgeous Scandinavian countryside sounds very appealing for now.
We're going to have a family meeting next week in Utah, where we will present some ideas. The kids have been excited about whatever ideas we've floated by them. Who wouldn't be excited to get out of your regular existence and travel the world on someone else's dime? But we have to make a decision and get things planned pretty soon.
Any input, loyal readers? We have 10-14 days or so, two adults and three teenagers who are all good travelers and interested in the world.

I think Norway sounds amazing to drive through. Have you done much in Seattle/Victoria (loved Buchart Gardens and you could go whale watching) or the amazing parks in Alberta...Waterton, Banff, Jasper. But, why not go overseas if you have the chance?
I loved my vacation to Alaska. It doesn't sound as exciting as Norway but it's an idea. It's beautiful in the summer.
Macchu Picchu and Lake Titicaca with maybe a stop in Panama or Belize or Chile? It seems like they are the perfect age for that trip.
@Liz-We have also considered Macchu Picchu, either alone or in conjunction with Galapagos.
I think it would be a great trip of a lifetime for these guys! At this age, this is the kind of trip they will be able to reflect on and resource for the rest of their school years plus it's really interactive with hiking and exploring and such a different culture. Norway is a great place for an adult but as far as history and diverse culture, you can't beat S. America and it's the perfect time of year to go there! good luck with your decisions. Evan went to MP in 2000 with his friends so if you need any info, he'd be happy to comment. xo
My vote goes towards the Galapagos!!!
We have wanted to do the Galapagos for a long time but in the end keep going with other places. Hopefully you'll go so I can hear your personal story and see photos. The only person I know that's gone went on a private yaght with no budget...definitely not our same circumstances... :) Can't wait to hear!!!
