Down In the Mouth

We're in Utah this weekend for my grandma's 98th birthday and the World Superbike races. I've really been lookng forward to it, especially because I get to spend some time with my mom, aunts, uncles and cousins.

What's the perfect addition to that vacation? An emergency root canal, of course!

Terry and Lezlie's dentist is off on Fridays, but he was kind enough to get me into an endodontist's. If you're ever in Salt Lake and need a root canal, I highly recommend Dr. Matthew Kjar at Utah Endodontics in South Jordan. He and his assistant, Hailey, made me feel so comfortable, and they were fast and thorough. It was my best root canal experience ever. (And believe me, I have had MANY, MANY root canal experiences, starting when I was 3.)

Memorable Memorial Weekend

The hills outside of Vegas have some nice mountain bike trails, so we strapped four bikes on the back of the Lexus and took off for the weekend. Paul and Amber were great travel companions. Amber works for a major hotel chain and was able to get a massive discount on a suite that they kindly shared with us.

I really haven't taken the time to go out riding lately, so I'm a wuss when it comes to, well, just about anything tricky. But it was still a lot of fun to get out and ride around.

We decided to nickname Rowdy either Flatty or Patches O'Houlihan after he had to fix a total of eight flats over the course of two days. That's what happens when you run over a cactus. And I thought that I had problems with cacti!

So, ride, swim, ride, buffet, sleep, ride (or rest, in my case), eat, visit the Atomic Testing Museum, and then a loooooonnng ride home in the Memorial Day traffic.

I would like to go back and play on the trails and mtb park in Boulder City.

More photos and story on Amber and Rowdy's blogs.

A Few Words About My Sweetie On His Birthday

Rowdy creates stand-up comedy routines in the shower.

His favorite holidays are Thanksgiving, Fourth of July and his birthday. Christmas--not so much.

He loves vintage Bugs Bunny cartoons.

He is crazy about his kids and wishes we could be with them more often.

He always has to have something going on. He rarely has a "do-nothing" day, especially now that he's feeling better.

Typical of redheads, he is difficult to sedate.

Pumpkin pie was his choice instead of birthday cake.

Rowdy is a very patient teacher and knows how to break things down in a way that's easy to understand.

He knows how to make me feel loved and wanted.

He's 37 years old today!!!!

I love you, Rowdstar!

Internal Monologue--Saturday, May 16, 2009

6:30 am--Wheeeeee! I'm going to play with dolphins today!!!!
7:30 am--I'm going to get there at 8:00 and just walk around.
7:45 am--They don't open until 9!?! Rats.
8:15 am--Hmph! I'm going now anyway. If I have to stand outside the gate, I'll stand outside the gate.
8:45 am--Don't skip. No skipping. You're a grown-up. Walk calmly and steadily.
9:00 am--Yay! Yay! They're finally open! Okay. No skipping. No jumping up and down and squealing like a 12-year-old at a Jonas Brothers concert.
9:15 am--Okay! Wetsuit on! Booties on! Bring on the dolphins!
9:20 am--Awwwww...they are so fun! They feel smooth and rubbery.
9:30 am--Cuuuutttee!
9:45 am--Awwww...I love you Maggie and Purina!
10:00 am--Heeheee! Heeheee! Eeek! I have salt water in my mouth!
10:15 am--We're done already?! Dang it!
10:30 am--Eighty bucks for a CD of the pictures? Pffft! Forget that. I'll just get a couple of pictures of me and the dolphins.
10:45 am--All of this excitement has made me tired--and hungry. In-n-Out time! I love living in San Diego!

Mother's Day 2009

True to form, I had my mom's present planned out weeks ago, bought the materials on Monday, made the object on Wednesday and mailed it yesterday. So I can't post it, because she's not going to get it until Thursday and I want her to be surprised. But it's cute (I think).

R said last week, "I know what I want to get you for Mother's Day, but it's not a "typical Mother's Day" present."

"That's fine, because I'm not a typical mother," I replied.

I did get flowers for outside and cupcakes, and breakfast brought to me on the couch, which are fairly-typical.

But my somewhat non-traditional present was...being a dolphin trainer for a day at Sea World!! YAAAAYYYY!!! I think I'm scheduled for next Saturday.
